The village of
Clapton-on-the-Hill
Clapton
was the quarters for the officers based at the Roman
camp at Bourton-on-the-Water. In the Middle Ages,
Clapton was part of the manor of Bourton-on-the-Water,
which belonged to Evesham Abbey. The village is
predominantly agricultural with stunning views across
the Windrush valley.
Before the Second World War, Clapton was famous for its
strawberries, grown in the fields around the village,
one of which remains. As befits the former residence of
William Fox, there is no pub in the village, however
there are many excellent local pubs and restaurants
within ten minutes drive of the house.
Some 3 miles from Bourton-on-the-Water,
Clapton is extraordinarily peaceful and quiet, yet we
are 40 minutes or so from....
We are more than happy
to help you plan your days and day tours to gardens both
locally and further afield can be arranged with James.
